Course Highlights

As of August 2023 Cragun's Resort has one brand new championship course called The Lehman 18 and another championship course called The Dutch 18 which will soon be 27 holes.  Both of these courses share a large fully outfitted clubhouse with a proshop, bar/restaurant, and room for events such as weddings.  The golf carts are premium modern versions with full GPS.

The Lehman 18 (Score 9.3) is a grand-scale championship track with lots of room and very cool hole designs.  Many modern design elements are present such as low cut green fringes that can be putt on and sand traps with layered sod edging.  Its clear that a lot of money was spent building this course.  Conditions of everything including greens, fairways, tee boxes, and hazards were excellent.  The hole designs were very interesting and varied.  As noted before, many of the holes had a huge amount of scale to them.  Walking is not allowed or desired :)  The visual appeal was fantastic at a 9.2 and may be even better once some of the vegetation finishes growing in.  There is a moderate amount of housing going up on the course which may or may not impact this score.  TBD.  Overall a fantastic north woods golf course experience.

The Dutch 18 (Score 8.9) has a lot of similar design details with a mix of old, new, and redesigned holes.  The conditions (8.9), playability(8.9), and visual appeal (8.8) were all a slight step down from Lehman in our eyes but still an excellent and very fun course.  Again there was lots of variety and interesting holes with most of them winding through a vast amount of land.

In our eyes, Cragun's now has one of the very best courses in MN with only three or four facilities in the state scoring 9.3 or higher at the time of this review.

Please note the pictures and scores below relate to The Lehman 18.

Condition*

9.4

Greens, fairways, tee boxes, and hazards were all in excellent shape with the previous note that some holes are still growing in the outer non-playing surfaces.

Playability

9.2

Greens had lots of fun undulation without feeling unfair or ridiculous.  Other than more blind shots than some courses, playability was excellent all around.  Great risk/reward and unique designs.

Visual Impact

9.2

Lots of well-done elevation changes.  Other than a few areas still growing in, overall the course looked fantastic and is a visual treat.
